FAQ
How much tea and water should I use for cold brew tea?
We recommend starting with a 1:100 tea-to-water ratio:
- 5 g tea + 500 ml (17 oz) water
- 10 g tea + 1 liter (34 oz) water
This ratio produces a smooth, balanced cup that’s easy to enjoy and easy to adjust. If you prefer a stronger brew, simply use a little more tea or steep for longer.
How long should I cold brew?
The simplest method? Brew it overnight.
Steep your tea in cold water for 8–12 hours in the refrigerator, then enjoy.
If you’re short on time, use a little more tea and brew for 3–4 hours instead.
Every tea and every palate is different, so feel free to adjust the brewing time until you find your favorite balance.
Why does cold brew tea taste less bitter than hot tea?
Cold water extracts amino acids and aromatic compounds more gently while slowing the extraction of tannins and caffeine. The result is a naturally smoother, sweeter cup with less bitterness—one of the reasons cold brew is a great introduction to loose-leaf tea.
Can I refill the leaves with more water?
Yes—but think of it as a second steep, not an endless refill.
The first cold brew contains the highest concentration of amino acids and natural sugars, giving the tea its smoothness and sweetness. As the leaves continue to steep, those compounds become less prominent while more tannins are extracted, making the flavor slightly less sweet and more robust.
Most teas in this flight are best enjoyed for up to two cold brews.
Do I need a special bottle?
Not at all.
A simple glass, mason jar, or water bottle works perfectly. We usually recommend 5 g of tea with 500 ml (17 oz) or more of cold water in any container that fits your daily routine.
The best cold brew setup is the one you’ll actually use.
Can I brew these hot?
Absolutely.
These teas are selected because they’re delicious cold, but they’re equally enjoyable brewed hot. In fact, hot brewing often highlights more floral aromas and layered complexity, making it a great way to experience a different side of the same tea.
Which tea is naturally sweeter?
In general, younger and more tender tea leaves produce a sweeter, smoother cup because they naturally contain more amino acids and fewer bitter compounds.
That’s why early spring green teas and delicate white teas often make exceptionally refreshing cold brews with little to no bitterness.
