Why Start with Dragon Well?

+

If green tea has ever tasted bitter, grassy, or too delicate to you, Dragon Well is a very different place to begin.

Its character is naturally smooth and savory-sweet, with warm chestnut notes, a soft vegetal freshness, and enough body to feel satisfying rather than thin. When brewed with slightly cooler water, it stays gentle and clear, without the sharp bitterness many people associate with green tea.

Dragon Well is also easy to understand. You do not need special equipment or complicated technique—a mug, a glass, or a small teapot is enough.

That balance of sweetness, warmth, freshness, and ease is why this is the first Chinese green tea I recommend to someone who is not sure they like green tea yet.

Seed-Grown, Not Clonal

+

This Dragon Well is made from seed-grown Qunti Zhong bushes, many of which have been growing in the garden for decades.

Unlike a clonal cultivar, each bush is slightly different. Growing on misty hills at around 500 meters, these older plants develop slowly through changing weather and seasonal conditions, giving the finished tea more natural variation and depth.

In the cup, you will still find the toasted soybean character associated with Dragon Well, but there is more happening underneath: a fuller texture, a lingering sweetness, and a delicate floral note that is less commonly found in more uniform, mild expressions of the tea.

The leaves may look a little less identical from one to another, but that variation is part of what makes the flavor feel more layered and alive.

The Hand-Fired Finish

+

Crafted through a semi-handcrafted process, our Dragon Well undergoes machine-assisted steps for consistency, followed by a crucial hand-fired finish. This final pan-firing stage requires skilled hands to adjust heat and movement in real time — gently pressing, tossing, and shaping the leaves to lock in their signature chestnut aroma and preserve the tenderness of early spring buds.

Part of Tea from Home

Five teas, one family garden.

This tea is one expression of our Tea from Home collection — five small-batch teas made from the same seed-grown Qunti Zhong leaves in Zhejiang.

By changing the craft, my father reveals a completely different side of the same garden: green, white, black, yellow tea.
