Jade-White Porcelain Gaiwan Set
Jade-White Porcelain Gaiwan Set
The tea set I reach for almost every day.
Made in Dehua, Fujian, this high-fired porcelain gaiwan set has a soft Lard White finish — warm, creamy, and gentler than stark white porcelain.
The 130 ml gaiwan is easy to hold and pour, with a balanced thickness that feels refined but practical for daily brewing. The matching 45 ml cups are sized for slow, focused sips.
Choose the gaiwan on its own, a pair of tasting cups, or the full set with one gaiwan and two cups.

Why Brew with a Gaiwan?

Why Brew with a Gaiwan?
A gaiwan is one of the most versatile ways to brew loose leaf tea. It works beautifully across tea types — green, white, oolong, black, yellow, and pu-erh.
Because each infusion is short, you can taste how a tea changes from steep to steep: the aroma opening, the body becoming fuller, and the finish turning softer or sweeter over time.
This is the brewing method I reach for most when evaluating a tea. It helps me understand the leaf clearly — aroma, texture, balance, and how the tea develops through multiple infusions.
It is also what I use when I want a quiet moment of tea meditation: simple leaves, hot water, a small vessel, and a few focused pours.

Why Lard-White Dehua Porcelain?
Dehua, Fujian has long been known for its white porcelain, but not all white porcelain feels the same in daily use.
This set uses a Lard White finish — a warm, creamy white inspired by the traditional Chinese description “zhuyoubai.” The name refers to a soft, luminous white rather than a cold or stark white.
Fired at approximately 1300°C, the porcelain is dense, smooth, and less porous than lower-fired ceramics. Tea stains are less likely to sink into the surface, making the set easier to rinse clean even after tea has been left for a while.
The color is quiet enough to let the tea take focus, while still making it easy to appreciate the shade of the liquor in the cup.
