What Makes Yellow Tea Yellow?

Unlike green tea, this Yellow Pearl Tea goes through a special step called menhuang — a gentle “sealing yellow” process. After the leaves are pan-fired, they’re softly wrapped and rested while still warm. This allows a slow transformation that gives the tea its signature golden color and mellow, comforting taste. It removes some of the grassy sharpness of green tea, making it smoother, rounder, and easier on the stomach. A quiet but important detail that makes yellow tea rare — and lovely.

Our Modern Interpretation

Our Yellow Pearl Tea revives tradition with a modern touch—melding the classic yellowing method of Pingyang Huangtang with pearl-style shaping inspired by Zhu-type green teas like Cuiming from Shangyu, Zhejiang.

Unlike the original loose form, we gently roll the leaves into compact pearls, giving the tea a refined appearance and slow-unfurling elegance.

The yellowing stage remains fully handcrafted, developing the tea’s signature mellow body and gentle sweetness.
